Breguet Announces the Classique Tourbillon 3358
The Manufacture has recently expanded its Classique Tourbillon series with two new 3358 references. These elegant timepieces captivate with their stunning dial designs and intricate watchmaking mechanisms.
One variant, crafted in white gold, transports us into a celestial realm with its midnight blue mother-of-pearl dial, reminiscent of a starlit sky. This dial is further embellished with a cascade of diamonds and various gold stars – some sandblasted, others polished, and a few even diamond-encrusted. Its design features an asymmetrical chapter ring at 12 o’clock, showcasing Arabic numerals and rhodium-plated gold Breguet hands, true to the brand’s heritage. The dial subtly incorporates the serial number at 4 o’clock and beautifully frames the tourbillon at 6 o’clock. This tourbillon is accentuated by a shooting star design, adorned with 45 diamonds and centred with a blue spinel. The tourbillon is visible from both sides, with a sapphire case-back displaying a meticulously hammered and hand-engraved baseplate, bearing Breguet’s signature and the movement’s unique reference number. The timepiece is further enhanced with diamonds adorning the bezel, lugs, and a rose-cut diamond on the crown.
The second model, encased in rose gold, boasts a dial decorated with 281 diamonds. These diamonds create elegant curves between 3 and 9 o’clock and are intricately set within the chapter ring using a snow-setting technique. The dial also features a natural white mother-of-pearl chapter ring at 12 o’clock, complemented by Arabic numerals and hands that align with Breguet’s distinctive design ethos. The tourbillon, placed at the dial’s base, is showcased within an oval-shaped, polished aperture and is highlighted by a gold bar with 14 diamonds. This model’s tourbillon components contrast in grey and pink hues, adding to its allure. Like its counterpart, this watch also features a diamond-set bezel and lugs, with a rose-cut diamond on the crown. The sapphire case back reveals the hand-engraved decoration on the movement.
Movement
Both watches are housed in 35 mm cases, water-resistant up to 30 meters, and powered by the 187 D movement. This hand-wound movement operates at a frequency of 2.5 Hz and offers a 50-hour power reserve. The calibre includes a steel Breguet balance spring with a hand-crafted terminal curve. They are completed with glossy alligator leather straps, in midnight blue for the white gold model and crimson red for the rose gold version.
About the Tourbillon
These timepieces are a testament to the ingenuity of Abraham-Louis Breguet, who, on 26 June 1801, revolutionized watchmaking by inventing the tourbillon. He aimed to counteract gravity’s effects on watch movements, which he achieved by housing the escapement in a rotating carriage. This invention compensated for positional errors and ensured better lubrication for the balance pivots.
