The moon in all its beauty

Curiousity and innovation have always propelled human advancement in some ways. This truth resonates as much with scholars as it does with the modern artisans of Glashütte Original. The moon phase complication holds a special place in the heritage of this German watchmaker. Their latest masterpiece reimagines this complication, positioning it at the core of a cutting-edge watch that exudes mystery.

The moon of the PanoLunarInverse ascends against the celestial backdrop. This deep blue starry sky is composed of aventurine, a material renowned for its sparkle and intense hue. This substance, first crafted in the 17th century by Venetian glass masters on the island of Murano, adds a touch of historical beauty. The moon itself is sculpted in relief and meticulously 3D laser-engraved to replicate the craters and mountains of Earth’s sole natural satellite. Although the moon typically heralds the night, its silent presence can be felt at any time with the PanoLunarInverse. Once it goes through the dial’s cutout section, it continues its orbit, remaining visible beneath the grey-blue sapphire crystal.

Movement

While the PanoLunarInverse invites us to gaze into the vastness of space, Glashütte Original’s watchmakers had to work within minuscule dimensions to accommodate its complication. The hour and minute display are synchronized with the moon phase and is off-center on the left side. It showcases an unconventional movement design which is now a distinctive hallmark: Movement components are mounted upside-down, visible from the dial side. This architectural choice was integrated seamlessly with the additional complication. The outcome is a captivating design that offers clear views into the intricate mechanics, essentially creating a window into its own universe – the balance wheel. This can be admired from the front, beneath a black rhodium-plated balance bridge adorned with intricate guilloché patterns. Traditional Glashütte watchmaking techniques blend seamlessly with state-of-the-art manufacturing methods, resulting in a uniquely modern and unmistakable aesthetic.

Dimensions

The cosmic wonder of the PanoLunarInverse is encased in a 42 mm platinum case. It’s the first Glashütte Original model with an inverted movement design to incorporate a moon phase display. It is water-resistant to 5 bar and is paired with a grey Louisiana alligator nubuck leather strap or a blue synthetic strap crafted from entirely recycled yarn. The hand-finished 91-04 automatic caliber provides a power reserve of up to 45 hours. In harmony with the lunar theme, the skeletonized rotor features a domed moon, visible through the sapphire crystal case back.

Limited to just 200 pieces, the PanoLunarInverse will be available from all official Glashütte Original retailers from October 2024.
