On January 8, 2024, in Schaffhausen and Shanghai, IWC Schaffhausen unveiled a special limited edition Portugieser Chronograph to commemorate the Year of the Dragon. The Portugieser Chronograph Year of the Dragon boasts a sophisticated 41-mm stainless steel casing, a striking burgundy dial, and gold-plated hands and appliques that stand out beautifully. With only 1000 units available, the watch’s most notable feature is its dragon-shaped rotor, which can be seen through the transparent sapphire glass on the back of the case.

IWC Schaffhausen celebrates the Lunar New Year by releasing a unique edition timepiece in keeping with its customary practice. The Year of the Wood Dragon commences on February 10, 2024, a rare occurrence in the Chinese zodiac that happens once every six decades. Those born in the dragon year are often seen as vigorous, robust, self-assured, talented, innovative, and benevolent. Dragons are known for starting significant endeavours and maintaining their momentum. The advent of the Dragon Year is associated with good fortune, wealth, and financial triumph.

A 41-mm stainless steel body, a rich burgundy face, and gold-plated pointers and decorations distinguish the Portugieser Chronograph Year of the Dragon (model IW371629). The burgundy hue, reminiscent of fire’s lively red, is traditionally embraced during China’s Lunar New Year for its association with prosperity and good fortune. This timepiece is driven by the in-house 69355 calibres from IWC, a sturdy and accurate mechanical chronograph mechanism with a classic column wheel layout. The movement, visible through the transparent sapphire case back, showcases a standout feature: a meticulously crafted dragon-shaped, gold-plated rotor in the automatic winding system. Moreover, the case back ring is engraved with the words “2024 YEAR OF THE DRAGON.” This special edition watch has two interchangeable straps: a black calfskin strap and a burgundy rubber strap, providing two distinct style options. A butterfly clasp ensures comfort.

The Portugieser Chronograph Year of the Dragon edition, with only 1000 units produced, is now available for purchase at IWC boutiques, through certified retail partners, or directly via IWC’s website at Furthermore, this watch qualifies for the My IWC care program, which offers an additional six years on top of the usual two-year International Limited Warranty.
