Jaeger-LeCoultre announces a new Polaris Chronograph
In 2018, Jaeger-LeCoultre breathed new life into the Polaris watch collection, adding sporty refinements. This year, they take the Polaris Chronograph to the next level with two distinct dials that showcase JLC’s expert craftsmanship. Both variations of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Chronograph come with two sets of easily swappable straps, allowing for quick customization.
The new Polaris Chronograph dials’ sleek and modern case lines create a bold and visually stunning appearance with their luxurious lacquered surfaces. One dial features a deep blue hue, emphasizing the refined aspect of the Polaris character. The other dial presents a warm grey shade for a sportier look.
Dial
The dial’s construction involves a central disc, middle ring, and outer ring with a tachymeter scale. The lacquer colour on both the central disc and hour ring transitions from light to dark, providing different colours or a sense of depth depending on the surroundings. Creating these dial components involves a meticulous and time-consuming artisanal process with multiple coating layers. The components are polished to achieve a brilliant mirrored finish.
The layout of the dial includes a central chronograph seconds hand, a 30-minute counter, and a running-second sub-dial. The circular graining on the sub-dials creates a contrast against the glossy lacquered surfaces. Hints of orange highlight key indicators, adding dynamism to the overall look. Luminescent coatings ensure legibility in various lighting conditions.
The sapphire crystal case-back reveals the automatic Calibre 761 movement, highlighting Jaeger-LeCoultre’s watchmaking philosophy. The movement features twin barrels, a column-wheel design with a vertical clutch, and a 65-hour power reserve.
The new Polaris collection pays tribute to the iconic diving timepieces from the 1960s while maintaining practicality. It captures the sporty essence and vintage charm in a contemporary and sophisticated manner.
The Polaris Chronograph is crafted for supreme comfort, making it suitable for both everyday wear and high-performance sports. The 42mm stainless steel case embodies the essential Polaris design elements, including clean lines, elegant curved lugs, a slim bezel, and a domed crystal. The crown and pushers are inspired by the 1960s model, designed for improved grip.
Strap
The watch features an adaptable strap system, offering both sporty and dressy options. Each watch comes with a steel bracelet and another strap. The blue Polaris comes with a textured blue rubber strap, while the grey dial is paired with a beige canvas strap and a textured black rubber strap.
The price is AUD $23,400 or USD $14,300. You can purchase the Polaris Chronograph (US) here or if you’re in Australia, here.
