Ochs und Junior announces the Ochs Line Day/Night
Ochs und junior announces their latest masterpiece, a watch that unveils the secrets of day and night. Originally a singular creation by Ludwig Oechslin in 2018, this astronomical wonder now joins the main ochs line. Bathed in a patina crafted within our own La Chaux-de-Fonds atelier, its minimalist brass gleams against a dial that shifts with the light – deep ocean blues melting into midnight black, or shimmering with shades of violet and rich eggplant. A watch to inspire both wonder and contemplation.
The 40mm ochs line day/night becomes your personal celestial map. It charts the rise and fall of the sun, pinpoints the path of the moon, and marks the passage of days – all precisely calibrated to your chosen corner of the world, whether in the northern or southern hemisphere. This is Ludwig Oechslin’s complexity made intimate.
Reading the functions
- Daytime and nighttime
- The contrasting sections of the dial reveal the day’s dance with darkness. The shifting boundary lines echo the true horizon, subtly adjusting every 10 days to mirror the Earth’s seasonal tilt.
- Sunrise and Sunset
- Like a celestial clockwork, the sun emerges from the dial’s shadowed depths at dawn and descends into twilight as day gives way to night.
- Moonphase
- Imagine the watch’s center as our Earth; the moon’s graceful orbit determines its phase. Unseen during a new moon, it stands in vibrant opposition to the sun when full.
- Solar noon
- With a press at 6 o’clock, you mark solar noon, the sun’s zenith, precisely for your location (demonstration video).
- Date
- The understated date display at 6 o’clock serves a vital purpose – setting this remarkable timepiece. Its simplicity preserves space for the intricate workings along the dial’s edge.
- Sun and moon position
- Facing south, the sun and moon’s placement on the dial becomes your celestial compass, guiding your gaze to their mirrored positions in the vastness of the sky.
