Ollech & Wajs announces the M-110 AS
The newly announced OW M-110 now comes with a distinctive ‘infantry green’ dual-ply fabric strap. This strap is crafted from repurposed, high-quality dual twill hemp canvas sourced directly from surplus Swiss Army stocks. This exceptionally robust material, more durable and lighter than cotton, was initially developed for various military objectives, including the renowned Swiss Army Pioneer backpacks and weather-resistant covers. Produced in the mid-1950s, around the same period Ollech & Wajs was established, it was engineered to withstand a century of use in the field. Thus, even though it’s already surpassed 60 years of age, it still maintains substantial durability.
The robust two-tone fabric, developed for heavy-duty use, is lined with 100% natural soft leather, carefully sourced and hand-stitched in Italy. The strap’s straight-cut edge is designed to create a subtle frayed look with everyday wear, enhancing its vintage charm. A brushed stainless steel thorn buckle is used with the signature “OWZ 1956” to complete the look. This configuration offers a unique opportunity to own and wear a timepiece infused with its historical annals, thanks to the Armée suisse strap. This isn’t the first example where Ollech & Wajs has repurposed vintage materials; simply last month, they presented the Limited Edition 56 M watch, primarily crafted from vintage new old stock components found in the Ollech & Wajs inventory.
The watch is wearable at 39.56mm. Though it can be a bit thick at 12.5mm, it’s still a reasonably short watch at 45.7mm lug to lug. The case is a brushed 316L stainless steel with a screwed crown. This configuration allows the watch to have a 300m water resistance. The sapphire crystal is treated with anti-reflective treatment and the cardinal direction markers and angle scale are painted with Super LumiNova.
The movement is an automatic bespoke Soprod Newton Precision P092. This movement is the company’s successor to the ETA 2824-2 by partnering with Soprod. There’s a lot of information about this movement, but it was made to fit cases where the 2824-2 fits, making it an alternative replacement. In addition, The Soprod Newton P092 movement is independently tested for reliability and durability at the internationally recognised Laboratoire Dubois in Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, and has been awarded a Chronofiable® certification.
